How To Explain Gay Rights To An Idiot
(via BuzzFeed)

The only issue I have with this is groups can’t claim rights - only individuals can. The whole topic of marriage really has its roots in the idea of freedom of association. It should be the right of any individual to engage in any contract or form of voluntary interaction they want. It shouldn’t be the job of the government to recognize any marriage. It should be left to individuals to privately decide who they wish to associate with. I don’t ask the government to recognize my best friend and I don’t expect them to do the same for my future wifey. Marriage should really be a simple contract signed between two or more individuals agreeing on a set of common terms (I.E. what would happen to the house if a divorce was to occur or who got access to who’s bank account ect ect…). If you’re a fundamentalist Christian then by all means have a supper fabulous traditional marriage! Just don’t impose those views on others.
